The Beltway Blues (My Tifton Flower)

(Song lyrics)

Set me up on the tracks, man
I’m so down at the mouth
I’m Southern and I’m goin’ South
Yeah, I’m certain that I’m goin’ south

Don’t know how many milligrams
They got me on, but, as long
as this thing keeps rattlin’ on
know that I’ll feel better every hour
I draw closer to my Tifton flower

Oh Maryland, you ain’t my friend
and I doubt that I shall ever be
comin back again

Set me up on the tracks, man
I’m so down at the mouth
I’m Southern and I’m goin’ South
Yeah, I’m certain that I’m goin’ south

Well, they won’t even let me keep a goat,
I don’t care if I waste my vote
Just as long as my dogs have room
to roam around
They tell me that they miss that town

I don’t care to elaborate
I hate the various affairs of State
The state fair is what I care about
In Georgia, boys, they go all out

Set me up on the tracks, man
I’m so down at the mouth
I’m Southern and I’m goin’ South
‘Cause, I’m certain that I’m goin’ south

Oh Maryland, you ain’t my kin
and I doubt that I shall ever let you
fence me in again

The king is gone, but, she’s not forgotten
Gonna learn to pick like Elizabeth Cotten
I’m sure someone down there can show me how
This is just gonna have to do for now

Set me up on the tracks, man
I’m so down at the mouth
I’m Southern and I’m goin’ South
Yeah, I’m certain that I’m goin’ south
