A Moon, A Dance, but Not a Moondance

“Come a little bit closer
hear what I have to say”

25 years later,
not to the day

probably, no
to the month,

last night,
that song came on.

“Just like children sleepin’
we could dream the night away”

I’m bad with dates
but, I remember

doing ok, that once.
I took you to a dance

on 26th Street. We
were the only ones

there, except
my neighbors.

“But there’s a full-moon risin’
let’s go dancin’ in the light”

How much damage
can you do

in 600 square-feet?
I was ready to kiss

my deposit goodbye
if it came to it.

“Because I’m still in love with you
on this Harvest Moon”

I don’t know one moon
from another.

I never have found
a practical use for it,

in all these years.
I’ve never been

a sailor or a farmer.
I don’t believe

in astrology, though,
I have had it

explained to me.

“When we were strangers
I watched you from afar”

So, that’s it.
The song came on

last night. I wanna
see you dance again

but, I don’t mean
to keep you.

At least not
this time.

“When we were lovers
I loved you with all my heart”
