1987 came and rolled in

there was no stopping it
no making it pause for anything
but most of all I am traditional
and it is traditional to create a resolution at this
time
because there is a very clear line
between past and future
and there is a very clear line
which divides our lives
giving us a much more believable point of change
when we are trying to explain to someone
how we’ve made a great change
and we say to this person
“I’ve changed greatly”
and we can point to the changing number
and argue that if we can push history
we can certainly change with it
and we say to this person
who didn’t trust us last year either
“really.”
