When to Leave by Ship

When you think your mule
looks too svelte

and he drank your coffee
this morning.

He’s, at best, an even bet
to turn back

to the stables.
When your private plane

promises to go,
but returns again

scared by a little rain,
you know the time has come

to leave by ship.
You know the time has come

to leave by ship,
you know the time has come,

you know the wind, love,
will only commit

to the one horizon.
